FRC stands for Field-Reversed Configuration. This is a virtual plasma bench: a place to explore how a moving plasma responds to magnetic fields and pulsed coils.
Open the simulation viewer to rotate the current-density volume and magnetic field together, step through the saved states, or play the pulse. Switch between radial, azimuthal and axial current, reveal the tube and coils, and compare each moment against a shared color scale.
This playback follows an exploratory pre-ionized argon model through a 20 mT coil pulse. The web edition includes 36 actual saved states across 3.5 microseconds, loaded as needed. The original field values and timestamps are preserved.
The rendering is three-dimensional; the underlying simulation is axisymmetric. FRC formation, stability and confinement are still open questions. The viewer's source details describe the model and its current limits.
